WebJul 2, 2009 · That's why I was suggesting leaving the existing walls, with the ceramic tiles, and use plasterboard adhesive, and dot and dab new plasterboard sheets on top. His reason being the old tiles are really well bonded to the wall and it will cause a lot of damage that would need construction work to rectify.

Hi there, If the tiles will get wet (i.e. in the shower bit) you should use a cement-based backing board (i.e. like Hardibacker - available from Topps Tiles and similar) as plasterboard will disintegrate as water will always pass through the grout.
